Fingal’s Cave, Jura and Islay

Small Image

Our journey starts in picturesque Oban. We set sail for the charming Sound of Mull: behold Duart Castle, the fortress that perches like an eagle, guarding the seas below. Our first stop? Tobermory, the 19th-century fishing haven that beckons with its historic charm.

From Tobermory, our voyage of discovery unfolds along the rugged northwest coast of Mull. This is where the true magic of sailing comes to life, with hidden inlets and secluded bays calling for exploration.

We'll sail past the Treshnish Isles, and set our sights on the remote islet of Staffa, where Fingal's Cave calls to us. Named in honour of the legendary Irish hero, Finn, this extraordinary cavern, with its magnificent basalt columns and wonderful acoustic, was rediscovered in 1772. In 1829, the renowned composer, Mendelssohn, visited with his friend and mother, and was inspired to compose the overture, Fingal's Cave. If we reach the shore, you can unleash your singing voice!

Leaving Staffa behind, we chart a southward course, passing Colonsay and heading for that jewel of the sea, Jura. A moment of tranquility awaits us here, and we may drop anchor to savour its serene beauty. Depending on the whims of the weather, we'll navigate the Sound of Islay between Jura and Islay, or embark on a voyage around Islay's western shores.

We aim to dock at Islay's Port Ellen, a renowned whiskey haven like no other. Here, amidst stunning coastal vistas, we find three of the most celebrated distilleries: Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg. Raise your glass to the rich legacy of Scotland's whiskey culture.

Now we cross the Irish Sea to Belfast, Northern Ireland - a journey itself. We look forward to welcoming you for this adventure in history, culture, and the boundless wonders of nature.
