Grayhound was commissioned by Marcus and Freya Pomeroy-Rowden from the boatbuilder Chris Rees at Voyager Boatyard in Cornwall. She was launched on 4th August 2012. She is a 5/6th scale replica of a three-masted UK Customs Lugger called Grayhound that was built in 1776 in Cawsand, Cornwall. Our Grayhound carries a Category 0 licence for worldwide travel and is armed with two working cannon!
The interior of Grayhound demonstrates the craftsmanship that characterises the entire ship. The living spaces are wonderfully designed, comfortable and homely.
Accommodation and Facilities
Grayhound accommodates up to twelve people on a day sail, ten on longer voyages, and eight on a cargo run. If we host an event at harbour-side we can welcome many more people on board.
We have two toilets.
Sleeping bunks are dormitory style, and bed linen is provided. Please see FAQ for further details of what to bring for your voyage or visit.
The Midships Saloon
This wonderful eating area is at the heart of the ship. It has a wide hatch so we can gaze at the stars while eating.
The Pilot House
The Pilot House is at deck level and it serves many purposes. It is a main route down to belowdecks. It is also a chart-room for navigating, a daytime shelter, a place to change clothes while adjusting to ‘night vision’ before a night watch, and a chill-out area for l’apéro and meals.
The Galley & Food
The Galley is designed to be an efficient and inspiring workspace for the chef. Meals are a highlight of life on Grayhound. We have a great tradition of using fresh produce and foraged food to produce wholesome meals inspired by local cuisine and maritime traditions. We serve very healthy, vegetarian food.

When I went sailing with the Grayhound I knew I had booked a trip to another place, but I didn’t know I booked a trip to another time!
